Description
Sarah’s Wood is a 17 Net Ha site of new native woodland, strategically positioned alongside existing forests. This project not only contributes to carbon sequestration but also enhances the landscape while creating vital corridors for local woodland bird species, supporting biodiversity and connectivity across the region. Previously agricultural land used primarily for silage cutting, Sarah's Wood is now on its way to becoming a thriving habitat that supports local biodiversity, including red squirrels and diverse bird species. Carbon sequestration was a key driver for the woodland’s creation, with carbon finance playing an essential role in bringing the project to life. Improved water quality – an aim of project design is to intercept runoff from other surrounding land uses that are potentially harmful to local river systems such as fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides, animal waste and silt. Biodiversity uplift, habitat corridors and linkage – the project has been designed specifically to link existing habitats previously separated by productive land or land less hospitable to wildlife. Desired outcome aimed to increase the amount, and variety, of flora and fauna species in the area. Beyond environmental benefits, Sarah's Wood also offers valuable amenity space for the local community.
